CHESTER:  16.2hh, dark bay roanChester

Chester arrived in 1999 at the age of 16 and, as a result, Viewfield Stud came into existence. Born in 1983 and owned by Mr Max Jackson from a yearling, Chester was to live out his retirement years at Winkleigh.  In his youth he had worked in a pair with a gelding and been hooked up to just about every agricultural implement that a working horse can be attached to.  He was an absolute gentleman and the perfect horse for a first time stallion owner.  He served his last mare, a visiting Clydesdale, in November 2008 at the age of 25.  He passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 8th 2009.  His last foal, a bay filly, was born in October 2009.  Chester produced 28 Viewfield foals in those final 10 years of his life, 7 clydesdales and 21 clydesdale cross sporthorses.  Two of his daughters have been retained by Viewfield Stud, Viewfield Gemma and Viewfield Bonnie.  An additional two mares were sold in foal to him, and 21 outside mares paid him a visit.    A quiet retirement… or should that be quite a retirement!!??
